The race for the director's position on "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn" continues, as yet another unexpected name has been connected to Summit Entertainment's vampire franchise: Stephen Daldry.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Daldry is the latest filmmaker to join the mix of possible directors for "Breaking Dawn," the fourth and final installment (or installments, if the book is split into two movies) in the film series based on Stephenie Meyer's popular supernatural romance novels. Daldry's prior film credits include "The Hours," "Billy Elliot" and "The Reader," for which actress Kate Winslet won an Academy Award. Although Daldry has not won an Oscar himself, he has been nominated for all three of the aforementioned movies.
Daldry joins a list of possible directors that includes Sofia Coppola ("Lost in Translation"), Bill Condon ("Dream Girls") and Gus Van Sant ("Good Will Hunting"). Van Sant is considered a favorite among several "Twilight" castmembers, including Robert Pattinson and Peter Facinelli.
"He shoots everything in Portland. He's good at making it look beautiful," Pattinson previously told MTV News of Van Sant's qualifications. "It's all about teenage love and obsessions. I think Gus Van Sant would be great."
Earlier in the month, Kristen Stewart praised Summit's decision to explore filmmakers that aren't necessarily the likeliest of candidates when it comes to the "Twilight" franchise. "I think it's awesome," she said. "I think it's so cool that they're reaching. I think any one of those people would be great."
"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn" is expected to begin filming in the fall.
