George Clooney's Directing Inspires Ryan Gosling

The next step on Ryan Gosling's climb to the top might take him behind the camera. In a recent interview with MTV News, Gosling talked about his aspirations to eventually direct, like his "Ides of March" co-star and director George Clooney. "I'd like to do that," Gosling said. "That was one of the reasons I wanted to work with George, was to see how that's done." Even though Gosling may look up to Clooney as an actor/director, he isn't ready to wear both hats simultaneously just yet. "I don't think I could handle it as well as he does. He's pretty incredible to watch," Gosling said of Clooney directing himself in "Ides." "He's like Keanu Reeves in 'The Matrix.' Any problem that comes to him, he's just dodging those bullets." "The Ides of March" marks Clooney's fourth feature film as director and his first time working with Gosling. While Gosling hasn't directed yet, he does have some experience behind the scenes: He served as executive producer on last year's critical darling "Blue Valentine." Gosling recently found a new collaborator in Danish filmmaker and "Drive" director Nicolas Winding Refn. The duo are reuniting for Refn's next film, "Only God Forgives," and have two other films in development, including the much-delayed remake of "Logan's Run." Gosling's work with Refn developing the tone and screenplay for "Drive" was often talked about in the press and could hint at future directing gigs.
