With our 10 nominees now battling it out for the top spot, here are just a few of the reasons why they deserve to take the moniker of Greatest Badass of All Time.
John McClane
"The man is unstoppable in the 'Die Hard' films. He is an everyday normal guy thrust into impossible scenarios, but we learn that he is all too human and feels pain as well. And let's not forget, 'Yippee-ki-yay, motherf---er.' " - Tom
Darth Vader
" 'Star Wars' has made Darth Vader the greatest badass since 1977. He killed Padowans, Jedi and, if you work for him and mess up, he'll kill you. He destroyed Aalderan with the Death Star just to try it out. Vader is badass enough to destroy a freakin' planet, and doesn't need a reason. He was going to kill Luke — his own son — because Luke didn't want to join the dark side, and that's so badass." - Mike
Spike Spiegel
"Spike is, frankly, an unstoppable badass, but that's not why I think he's the greatest of them all. He's a human character. There are plenty of chinks in his armor. His rivalry with Vicious is morally gray, even if the universe around them is quite violent." - Gavin
The Joker
"Because of Heath Ledger, 'The Dark Knight' featured the absolute best Joker to hit screens yet. Sure, we were humored by Jack Nicholson in Tim Burton's version, but for anyone who's seen this latest iteration, you see no competition. He's a character entirely willing to test the very down-to-earth survival instincts of (and depth of) the human psyche through terrorist actions, and that is why he should be the greatest badass of all time." - Paul
Ash Williams
"The fact is that you can't hold Ash to the same standard that you hold mere mortals to. He is not only just a complete and total badass, he is the standard by which all future badasses will be measured. So if he wants to jump onto a department store trampoline and fire 15 perfectly aimed shotgun shells in rapid succession while soaring 20 feet in the air, he can do it." - Asia
Batman
"Whether it's one henchman armed with two swords, the deadly playfulness of Catwoman or even an army of trained ninjas invading his city, the Batman has handled them all. Don't forget he has the most recognizable costume in comic book publication or movie history and the single greatest set of wheels ever — no matter the variations. The Dark Knight puts fear into the hearts of all criminals and is willing to kick anybody's ass who gets in his way of pursuing justice, all while protecting the innocent — now THAT'S a badass." - Cary
Boba Fett
"What is there to say? You have a Mandalorian, armed to the teeth with enough weapons to start a small weapons shop. He is feared, respected and people go out of their way to get out of his way. Besides, he is the only person to make it out of the Sarlacc alive, so you tell me if he is tough." - Matthew
Rambo
"Rambo was a one-man army, killing hundreds in the span of his lifetime on the screen. Even as an older man he decimates the enemies with nothing but a bow and arrow, knife and a turret. But what makes this all so badass is he is human, and constantly shows his faults as a human being, whether it was his mental breakdown in 'First Blood,' or his inability to interact with the girl in the most recent 'Rambo.' " - Derrick
Ellen Ripley
"Time and time again she has faced the brutal reality of space with the horrendous alien menace, and if that is not bad enough she had to deal with an evil corporation. She remained true and survived all the crap that came up against her." - Rachel
Snake Plisken
"Not only was he a total badass in both 'Escape From New York' and 'Escape From L.A.,' but he also wears an eye patch. What's more badass than that?" - James
