After Taylor Lautner famously hit the gym to keep his role in the "Twilight" series, Kristen Stewart told MTV News she was thankful he hadn't been replaced for "New Moon." And as filming began for the sequel, the co-stars were able to build on their relationship for the benefit of the film and their fans.
"I'm so glad they didn't have to find somebody else; we already had him!" Stewart told us back in January, and she continued to support Lautner as the two worked to capture the tentative love story between heartbroken Bella Swan and werewolf-to-be Jacob Black.
"Kristen has been absolutely amazing to work with," Lautner said in an interview provided by studio Summit Entertainment. "She's such a talented actress, so to be able to have her there with me all the time has just been great. The relationship between us is wonderful, and she's a lot of fun to have on set and be with me all the time."
Stewart expressed admiration for Lautner's commitment to the franchise, including packing on almost 30 pounds and pulling off a shape-shifting makeover almost as impressive as the one displayed by his werewolf character. "He's stepped up in a way — out of anyone that has anything to do with this movie — it's the most impressive transformation," she said in another Summit interview. "Which is funny, because he's supposed to undergo a transformation in the movie anyway. But he did it in his real life, and it's so cool to see that. And to be part of it a little bit too, just to be around it — he's growing into a really good guy. And he's really good in the movie. He's so strong."
