Alec Baldwin And Steve Martin To Co-Host The Oscars

The Academy Awards will welcome a hosting tag-team in 2010 in the form of funnyman Steve Martin and "30 Rock" star Alec Baldwin, the awards show's producers announced Tuesday (November 3).

"I am happy to co-host the Oscars with my enemy Alec Baldwin," Martin, 64, quipped.

"We think the team of Steve and Alec are the perfect pair of hosts for the Oscars," show producers Adam Shankman and Bill Mechanic said in a statement. "Steve will bring the experience of having hosted the show in the past and Alec will be a completely fresh personality for this event."

As for whether we should expect the duo to participate in musical numbers during the broadcast, Baldwin poked fun at Martin's side career as a part of the bluegrass band Steep Canyon Rangers in a statement: "I don't play the banjo, but I'm thrilled to be hosting the Oscars."

Including Martin's previous hosting duties, both men have a history with the Academy. Baldwin was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his work in "The Cooler," while Martin's first movie, 1977's "The Absent-Minded Waiter," was nominated for Best Live-Action Short Film.

Hugh Jackman was reportedly invited back to host the show after last year's successful gig, but according to Variety, he turned down the offer. It was also reported that the dynamic duo of Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr. declined the opportunity to host in tandem.

Next year's Academy Awards will take place Sunday, March 7, at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood.
