Miley Cyrus' Golden Globe Nomination Caps A Busy Year For 'Hannah Montana' Star

The Golden Globes are only days away — and MTV News will be here all week long to get you geared up for the big night with profiles, previews and fashion galore. It all comes to a head Sunday night, when we'll have more coverage than you can throw a shiny statuette at. Mark your calendars: Sunday, January 11, is the night, and this is the place to be!

In 2008, Miley Cyrus quickly escalated from Disney star to household name. Now, with a Golden Globe nomination for the "Bolt" song "I Thought I Lost You," which she helped write, the 16-year-old is capping off a busy year. (Check out photos from Miley's hectic 2008 here.)

In early 2008, Miley hit the road with the Jonas Brothers for her Best of Both Worlds Tour, which was later documented in a hit 3-D movie. The movie broke concert-film records, making $29 million in its first week.

So what's in the singer/actress' big-screen future? "More movies," she told MTV News at the film's premiere. "More where I can be an artist and an actress. I'm really excited to dig deep into a character."

In 2008, Miley was nominated for several awards, including her first VMA nod. In March, the teen won two Kids' Choice Awards. She followed that up with three wins at the Teen Choice Awards.

Her year was also filled with a couple of controversies. There was the infamous Vanity Fair shoot with Annie Leibovitz, in which she is seen partially covered in nothing more than a blanket. She later apologized for it saying she felt "so embarrassed" by it. She later revealed she wouldn't mind working with the famed photog again.

Her other accomplishments included turning 16 with a huge bash at Disneyland and her hit album Breakout. "It's for every teenager or any woman in general," Cyrus told MTV News about the album. "Most of my songs are for the girls who hate their current or ex-boyfriends."

Speaking of her love life, it was under a lot of scrutiny this year. First, she admitted to dating and getting her heart broken by Nick Jonas, which she later documented in her "7 Things" video. "Nick and I loved each other," Cyrus told Seventeen magazine over the summer. "We still do, but we were in love with each other." Then, the then-15-year-old got people talking by dating 20-year-old underwear model Justin Gaston.

Everywhere Miley went, rumors followed. And despite rumors that she was trying to leave "Hannah Montana," the show remains on the air. "I am fully committed to 'Hannah Montana,' " she said in September. "It's what gave me this amazing opportunity to reach out to so many people. I couldn't do it alone. We have an amazing cast that is so supportive, including my dad, who has been there for me every step of the way."

Miley isn't expected to slow down in 2009. She still has more episodes of "Hannah Montana" set to air, and the show is headed for the big screen. She's also expected to work on another film, inspired by a Nicholas Sparks novel.

And, as for post-2009, Miley has college on the brain. "That's what I want to do with my life. I would love to be a photographer," she said. "I do want to come to London to study photography. I hear there are some really great art schools here, so I would love to do that."

We're all over the Golden Globes! MTV News will be rolling out profiles, previews, fashion and much more in the days leading up to the awards — and this is the place to be on Sunday night, when we'll have live blogs, photos, interviews and more!
