Weezy will be the focus of a feature documentary, aptly titled "The Carter." The doc is set to premiere at 25th annual Sundance Film Festival, which takes place from January 15 through the 25th.
While the date has not yet been set, the film debut during Sundance's "Park City at Midnight," which looks like the perfect place for it. According to the festival's Web site, " 'Park City at Midnight' offers eight films that are likely to amuse, surprise, or shock the bleary eyed viewer and offer a lively last stop in the nightly film-going circuit."
The documentary was directed by Adam Bhala Lough, who is no stranger to documenting musicians on film. He previously directed "The Upsetter: The Life and Times of Lee Scratch Perry." The documentary took a look at the legendary reggae producer and his enormous contributions to the genre and to music in general.
"The Carter" is said to take "an in-depth, intimate look at the artist Dwayne 'Lil Wayne' Carter Jr., proclaimed by many as the 'greatest rapper alive.' "
A trailer for the film (which can be found online) opens with Wayne standing onstage, proclaiming to the crowd "I ain't sh-- without you," before the camera cuts to screaming fans. The clip is mainly concert footage, but Wayne's voice is heard in a voiceover explaining how his passion for rap set him apart.
"When they played hide-and-go seek, I'd be on the porch rapping. When they played football, I'd be on the porch rapping," he says.
