Angelina Jolie Talks 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith' Sequel, Brad Pitt

In the years since Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt met on the set of the high-octane action flick "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," the pair have gone on to work on a spate of critically acclaimed films. Of course, they've also created a life for themselves offscreen, raising a brood of six together and travelling the world on a variety of philanthropic projects. So, is Hollywood's sexiest A-list couple ready for a sequel?

"People have tried. And it's strange: Do we have kids in the movie?" Angelina Jolie considered in an interview with Vanity Fair. "We've thought about that, but it becomes personal now that we actually have kids. And if we work on it, we pull from our own life, which is funny to us, but you feel strange sharing too much," Jolie said in the magazine's August issue.

"We did ask somebody to look into 'Mr. & Mrs.' to see if they could crack a sequel, but there wasn't anything original. It was just, 'Well, they're going to get married, or they've got kids, or they get separated.' Never great," she added.

But even if the chances a sequel to the 2005 flick seem slim, Jolie said she'd be game to team up with partner Pitt for another project.

"I'd love to. We've talked about it. We'd have to figure out who's going to watch the kids, but it's really about finding the right thing, because we've looked," she explained. "When you're a couple, there are certain things people don't want to see you do. It becomes too indulgent, too personal. I don't think people want to see people who are really together intimate onscreen."

Jolie, however, had an idea about how to avoid filmgoers' tendency to reject some real-life couples hooking up onscreen (see: Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck circa "Gigli").

"Maybe we have to play bad guys that try to kill each other," said the actress, whose "Salt" arrives in theaters July 23. "So it's just fun and aggressive, not dealing with some man-woman deal."

Do you think Brad and Angelina should team up on the big screen again? Tell us in the comments!

Robert Pattinson Likens End Of ‘Twilight Saga’ To ‘Divorcing Someone’Wyclef Jean urges Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt to adopt a child from Haiti

'Eclipse' Director David Slade Reveals Kristen Stewart's Deleted Scenes

Last November, "New Moon" director Chris Weitz told us that the DVD release of the second film in the "Twilight" franchise would deliver 20 minutes of deleted footage for hungry fans. But when the disc dropped in March, no such scenes were included on virtually any available version.

Weitz eventually copped to the mistake, but "Twilight" fans might remain wary about promises of deleted scenes for the DVD of "Eclipse." So approach director David Slade's statements with both the usual enthusiasm and abundant caution, because he's promised MTV News that the DVD will definitely contain deleted scenes — and at least two will feature Kristen Stewart's Bella Swan.

"There's a lovely scene between Angela and Bella where they're just two girls getting along and they're just talking about girl stuff, about jealousy," said Slade of the two high school friends. "Bella's so completely and utterly wrapped up in all of this stuff — that Angela has no idea about — [and Bella] is blind to the basic human stuff in front of her. It's a lovely scene, and I'm sure it will be on the DVD. It just stopped the film dead. The film had a pace and it just stopped dead."

Indeed, there is very little in "Eclipse" of Bella in her high school setting: one or two scenes in the cafeteria, a brief graduation scene, and not much else. Rather, the movie focuses on the Bella-Edward-Jacob love triangle and the growing threat Victoria and her army of newborn vampires pose to the community. With a film that runs just over two hours, a director is simply forced to make tough choices.

"It was one of those things we ended up reluctantly removing, but it will be there for later, for prosperity," Slade said of the scene.

Aside from Bella and Angela's conversation, Slade admitted that not much was left on the cutting-room floor. "There's not much fat," he said.

But there is a touching scene between Bella and her father that fans can get excited to see. "We did this one scene of Charlie just telling Bella how proud he is of her, which was wonderful and really touching," Slade said. "But again, it just kind of stopped you."

'Restrepo': The War That Won't End, By Kurt Loder

Can there be an upside to war? Possibly. In "Restrepo," a new documentary by veteran combat journalists Tim Hetherington and Sebastian Junger, we find ourselves on patrol with a company of U.S. soldiers in the Korengal Valley, one of the bloodiest corners of the ongoing Afghan conflict. It's the spring of 2007, and the men have just weathered a heavy firefight. One of them emerges from it jacked-up and exultant. "That was fun!" he says. "You can't get a better high. Once you get shot at ... you can't top that."

The film vividly captures the dust and blood and the sheer drudgery of war. The unit has been assigned to build a new forward outpost right up against the edge of Taliban territory. Build it from scratch with picks and shovels, while from the surrounding mountains, enemy potshots are continual. The Taliban warriors come so close they can be heard talking to one another. But the American soldiers work straight through the night, and make a good start. They never complain. They christen the new base Restrepo Outpost, after a departed comrade, Juan "Doc" Restrepo, who recently took two bullets in the neck and bled out on the med-evac helicopter. They talk about Restrepo a lot, and we see footage of him goofing around on the flight that brought the men over here from a base in Italy. Like them, he was very young.

Still sleepless, they set out on patrol. They pass through battered villages, stopping occasionally to interrogate suspicious-looking locals. ("You got pretty clean hands for a goat-herder.") They meet with village elders and promise to "flood" the area with money and medical supplies if the villagers will only help fight the resurgent enemy. But the people caught in the middle of this conflict have defeat written on their faces. One man tells the company's captain, through an interpreter, "If we let you know about Taliban, then we will get killed." Alternatively, of course, this man could be Taliban. As was the case in the Vietnam War 40-odd years ago, in which the U.S. fought another indigenous enemy that didn't wear uniforms, it's virtually impossible to know.

The company moves on. Intermittently, the crack of gunfire flares up, and the camera jostles wildly in keeping up with the GIs as they hit the ground and crawl through the dirt. One of them has been hit, shot dead. One of his friends briefly breaks down in tears. Another soldier tries to comfort him: "It was quick," he says.

The unit comes to another village. This one has been chewed up by missile fire from the Army attack helicopters whirling overhead. Five civilians have been killed, more wounded. Inside one house we see women, children, even a baby wet with blood. This is the face of collateral damage.

Somewhere there's a grand plan for this war, a political scenario devised by a regiment of office warriors back in Washington. But the soldiers here don't talk about it. All they know is that there's an enemy their country is fighting, and their job is to kill him. They're tough and brave, and they're good at it. They casually discuss the fact that they may well die here, but that's not what concerns them most. What concerns them most is the possibility that one of their fellow soldiers may die — one of their pals, the only family they have in this hostile place.

The movie follows this company through 2008, when the men completed their 15-month deployment and were being flown back to Italy. What we don't see is the aftermath. This past April, having alienated the local populace, the Army withdrew the last of its troops from the Korengal Valley. Earlier this month, the Afghan conflict, which began directly after 9/11, became the longest war in U.S. history. More than a thousand U.S. soldiers have died in it. Last December, President Obama announced his intention to send 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan, bringing the total number of U.S. forces in-country to 100,000. But at the same time, he also announced that he'll begin pulling them out again next year. The president has since wobbled on that commitment. Still, it's hard to imagine the Taliban not feeling that victory in this long war is now mainly a waiting game.

The directors, Hetherington and Junger, acknowledge that they are men of the political left. Apart from the editing decisions they've made, though, their documentary recalls, in a smaller way, the disturbing images that emerged out of Vietnam, and ultimately turned America against that war. "Restrepo" is the answer to a question that will surely continue being asked.

Don't miss Kurt Loder's reviews of "Knight and Day" and "Dogtooth," also new in theaters this week.

'Toy Story 3,' 'Grown Ups' Play Well Together At Weekend Box Office

The Box-Office Top Five

#1 "Toy Story 3" ($59 million)
#2 "Grown Ups" ($41 million)
#3 "Knight and Day" ($20.5 million)
#4 "The Karate Kid" ($15.4 million)
#5 "The A-Team" ($6 million)

Moviegoers pining for their childhood years and those not quite ready to admit that they're well into their adult lives walked away happy this weekend as "Toy Story 3" and "Grown Ups" were the big winners at the weekend box office, while "Knight and Day" opened to disappointing results.

Landing in first place was "Toy Story 3" for its second-consecutive weekend victory. The Pixar family film earned $59 million in its second frame, bringing the latest "Toy Story" installment's domestic total to $226.6 million after just two weeks. With an additional $100 million earned overseas, "Toy Story 3" has a worldwide toy chest worth $326.6 million, far exceeding its production budget of $200 million.

Although the toys had the most fun at the box office this weekend, there was plenty to enjoy for "Grown Ups" as well. The Sony comedy stars veteran comedians and noted friends Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade and Rob Schneider, whose collective comedy power resulted in a strong $41 million debut.

While name recognition was a helpful factor in the success of "Grown Ups," it did little for Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz's "Knight and Day." The action-comedy earned $20.5 million over the weekend and $27.8 million since debuting on Wednesday, an unimpressive result given the box-office returns that Cruise and Diaz were once used to seeing.

Landing in fourth and fifth place were "The Karate Kid" and "The A-Team," proving their continued staying power in their third week at the box office. "The A-Team" has just barely crossed its production budget of $110 million, thanks to foreign ticket sales.

Last weekend's newcomer "Jonah Hex" virtually disappeared from sight with a $1.6 million 10th place finish, leaving many moviegoers scratching their heads wondering what went wrong with the Josh Brolin-starring DC Comics adaptation.

Upcoming Releases

Bella Swan finds herself in the crosshairs of deadly vampires and difficult romantic decisions once again with the arrival of "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" on Wednesday. But are the legions of Team Edward and Team Jacob supporters enough to take box office gold away from M. Night Shyamalan's "The Last Airbender"?

Which movie do you think will top next weekend's box office? Share your predictions in the comments.

'Twilight' Author Stephenie Meyer 'Very Happy' With 'Eclipse' Film

When it comes to satisfying "Twilight" expectations, be it those of finicky film critics or easier-to-please Twilighters, no opinion carries more weight than the approval of the series creator herself. When MTV News spoke to celebrated author Stephenie Meyer, she said she is happy to just be the author who only has to come out for big premiere events once a year, versus the actors who are out doing promotion for weeks on end. Also, she is very pleased with the third adaptation of her best-selling series.

"Oh, it's really good," she said of "Eclipse." "It's so much fun to watch. One of the ways I judge a good movie is I forget to be critical because I'm just having fun — and with this one, I definitely was having a good time watching it."

When asked about the decision to go back and re-shoot the infamous and highly anticipated "tent scene," Meyer said the changes were minor, but necessary in order to fully capture the words and tone that made the scene so memorable in the book. According to Meyer, the result is "really satisfying."

"It was so simple — it was [just] a blocking issue," Meyer explained of the decision to revisit the pivotal scene. "When Bella and Jacob crawl into the sleeping bag together, he didn't put his arms around her, he was just kind of backed away from her — I wasn't [on set] that day to say, 'Hold it!' [So] we went back and put that in. I'm very happy with that."

Ashley Greene, Kristen Stewart Style Risks Pay Off At 'Eclipse' Premiere

As far as men's style goes, it's hard to vary too much from the classic dark suit. But at Thursday night's (June 24) premiere of "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," Robert Pattinson tried his best. The dreamboat vampire walked the black carpet in a maroon Gucci suit, while his werewolf rival Taylor Lautner played it safe in a classic black suit/ skinny tie combo.

Among the ladies, muted colors and embellishments reigned supreme. Human star Kristen Stewart chose a white, one-sleeve Elie Saab minidress with a fierce cutout back. Her bestie, Dakota Fanning, also wore Elie Saab, though the Volturi guard went much more feminine in a short, flirty, nude-colored look with lace and feather accents. Fellow evil vampire Bryce Dallas Howard also went lacy in her long, mustard Dior frock, which was a rare spot of color amid a sea of neutrals. Also in the neutral camp was Ashley Greene, looking gorgeous in a light-blue column dress by Alexis Mabille Couture.

Several castmembers wore Marchesa: Nikki Reed's feathered number looked a tad Ice Capades chic (though she brought the ultimate accessory — her adorable little brother), while new wolf pack member Julia Jones shined in a silver, beaded strapless dress.

A couple of Cullen men looked dapper with their "90210" star significant others. Kellan Lutz echoed Taylor with a simple black suit and skinny tie, while girlfriend AnnaLynne McCord opted for a form-fitting champagne Nicole Miller and neutral makeup. Fellow Cullen clan member Peter Facinelli also donned a black pinstripe suit, which complemented wife Jennie Garth's metallic Marchesa and bright lipstick.

Metallics also seemed to be a hit, with Catalina Sandino Moreno in a belted, big-shouldered gunmetal-gray dress and Anna Kendrick in a ruffled olive frock. The boys weren't immune to the metallic trend either, with wolf pack member Alex Meraz donning a light-blue pinstripe suit.

Robert Pattinson Likens End Of 'Twilight Saga' To 'Divorcing Someone'

"Twilight" superstar Robert Pattinson has been conducting so many "Eclipse"-centric interviews lately, it's a wonder he actually remembers anything he says — let alone the countless articles that hang on his every word.

However, when MTV News caught up with him on the "Eclipse" premiere's black carpet Thursday night (June 24) to ask him about an article in which he'd been quoted as saying he's tired of all the "Twilight" work, Pattinson seemed to remember very clearly he had said nothing of the sort and quickly set the record straight.

"That's bullsh--!" Pattinson joked. "I hate reporters misquoting me, it's so annoying."

Of course, realizing he'd just used a naughty word during MTV's live feed from the premiere, he was quick to apologize for the blunder and cover his mouth.

Nonetheless, regarding his reportedly being "tired" of playing the world's most popular vampire, Pattinson denied it wholeheartedly: "Anyone who says they're tired of this is really crazy." Thinking about his life without "Twilight" reminds him of what he was doing before, "which was sitting around doing nothing." (Aside from his role in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," of course.)

"I love doing the movies," Pattinson insisted. "I like all the people. I've had a great time on all of them. The cast is great."

When asked to put into words what he'll feel when the series comes to an end in a couple of years, the teen heartthrob said simply, "It's just weird. They've become so much a part of my life, it's like divorcing someone. I guess Ill see. Maybe it will be great!"

Peter Jackson Reportedly Negotiating To Direct 'The Hobbit'

In a stunning development in the long-delayed big-screen adaptation of "The Hobbit," just over three weeks after Guillermo del Toro abandoned directorial duties, Peter Jackson is reportedly negotiating to step into the director's chair for the two-part production.

Deadline.com reports that Jackson is in the midst of negotiations with Warner Bros., New Line and MGM. Jackson, of course, is intimately familiar with Middle-earth, having directed the three installments of the "Lord of the Rings" franchise and winning the Oscar for directing in 2003. He was already co-writing the "Hobbit" screenplays, based on the 1937 book by J.R.R. Tolkien, and shepherding development as a producer. And while rumors surfaced last week that Jackson was being courted to direct as well, that possibility seemed like wishful thinking for Tolkienites.

Both "Hobbit" films are said to be gearing up to shoot back-to-back in Jackson's native New Zealand. MGM has been waging a very public struggle with financial issues, and Deadline repots that the studio is being encouraged to "loosen the purse strings and make the movies happen."

Since del Toro left the production late last month, after two years of pre-production, directors like David Yates ("Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows") and Neill Blomkamp ("District 9") have been rumored to be circling the job. But Jackson and his creative team have reportedly scheduled trips to London and Los Angeles to meet with potential actors, lending further credence to the idea that Jackson will, in fact, take on "Hobbit" directing duties.

MTV News' requests for comment from Jackson's representative and MGM were not returned as of press time.
